Art Curriculum
Intent
“Every human is an artist.’ Don Miguel Ruiz
It is our intent for the Art element in our school curriculum to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As our pupils progress, we intend for them to build strong foundations, be able to think critically and develop an understanding of art and design. We want them to know how art and design both reflect and shape history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth, both locally and globally.
Teachers will be given the flexibility to deliver high quality arts lessons through a theme, allowing teachers to make links with other areas of the curriculum.
Where possible, we invite artists from the community to share their work with the children and deliver workshops.
Aims
The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:
- produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques’
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design;
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
